TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- About 80 people gathered at a Frenchtown property that's slated to turn into student housing.
"I'm not happy about it at all. We were never informed that this development was even in the making," said Carolyn Jones. "We have been promised certain things before and they didn't come through and I am not happy about this right now.
Close to 80 residents gathered at a Frenchtown property.
The city commission is set to sell the land to a private developer tomorrow.
The land is a little less than an acre on North Macomb Street and across from the Renaissance Center.
Longtime residents say the property is historic.
Members of community groups including Tallahassee's chapters of the NAACP and Women's March addressed the crowd.
Residents say, they were never informed about the city's plans for the property.
They fear that more student housing will continue to erode the neighborhood's history and identity.
"The message we want to send is businesses. we want commercial development in Frenchtown, but also we want to be involved in the process moving forward, and we want what comes here in some way conform to the historical integrity that was historic Frenchtown," said Delaitre Hollinger.
The commission will vote tomorrow at its regularly scheduled meeting at 4 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to show up in force and to wear black.
