TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahasse's newest Planned Parenthood location is offering free STD screenings Friday.
The free testing day is being offered to increase awareness on the importance of screening for sexually transmitted diseases and to prevent the spread of diseases and infection to others.
The center will offer testing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The location is 2618 West Tennessee Street.
People are encouraged to make an appointment by calling (850) 574-7455 but walk-ins are also welcome.
"Leon County has actually had, recently reported, the most newest cases of Chlamydia in the county. And the highest actually in Florida," said Kimberly Scott. "So we want to make sure that we're here and present, being able to provide the care and education and resources that our patients need."
The rapid HIV test will provide results in just 15 minutes. Test results are confidential.
According to the Florida Department of Health, Leon County’s STD rates have steadily increased over the past few years. In 2016, Leon county had a 39 percent higher average than Florida’s total number of reported cases.
