FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) – The Franklin County School District is in more than half a million dollars in debt. In an effort to balance the budget the school board has proposed a 19.5 percent pay cut to all of the school district employees. A meeting was held Thursday night in the school board meeting room to allow the residents to voice their opinion on the proposal.
The meeting was packed with a standing-room-only crowd. A board member of Franklin County said that the residents were unhappy, and that they felt they were suffering as a result of someone else’s problems. The board member also said that an executive meeting will be held Monday at 6 p.m. with the board attorney as well as the teacher’s union attorney and president. It is unknown when an agreement will be made.
