APALACHICOLA, Fla. (WTXL) -- Franklin County Sheriff Mike Mock is warning about a new "jury duty" scam targeting area residents.

According to the sheriff's office, unknown persons have been calling local residents, claiming to be a local law enforcement officer, and telling the them they have missed jury duty and must immediately pay a fine or face arrest. The sheriff's office says those behind the scam are using a phone application that allows them to disguise their phone number and make it appear they are calling from a local number.

Deputies are reminding citizens that no Law Enforcement Officer will ever call demanding money in this manner. Should you be contacted by someone posing as an officer demanding money, please contact the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
