FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Law enforcement are expanding their reach, hoping to curb crime in one Franklin County neighborhood.

The sheriff tells me they get a lot of calls for service in the area near Ridge and Wilderness roads.

In fact, in the last seven months, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office has gotten about 1,300 calls for service ranging from drugs to domestic violence to burglaries.

That's why Sheriff A.J. Smith wants to put a sub station nearby.

"Hopefully that will help reduce crime because the more the deputies are there, the more they can be proactive and stop crime before it occurs, or catch drug users, drug dealers, people committing thefts," said Sheriff Smith. "A deputy out there doing report is more effective than one sitting here at the office."

Sheriff Smith tells me they already have a small building they're using now that can be moved to a new location. He's hoping someone will donate a small part of their land for the Sheriff's Office to use.
