FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Deputies are warning about a recent scam involving a fake call from Publishers Clearing House stating that you must send $1,000 to Mexico.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office alerted citizens to the scam on Facebook:
They say the scam involves a call from Publishers Clearing House stating that you must send $1,000 to Mexico to claim your winning from a sweepstakes. Deputies say scam callers also state that Sheriff "AJ" Smith will be calling to confirm the winnings.
Deputies are advising residents not to send money to anyone to receive a prize, saying that legit operations do not ask for a winner to send money.
They also note that Sheriff Smith is not and will not be calling anyone regarding a sweepstakes.
