FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A new toll road is a hot topic among Franklin County commissioners.
One of the main thoroughfares at the popular tourist location is eroding with each hurricane season.
Alligator Drive runs parallel to the Gulf, and at least one stretch of the roadway is functioning only as a one-lane gravel road.
Alligator Point Taxpayers Association hired Clary Consulting to research the adding of a toll system.
According to their finding, if the toll road were implemented, the toll fee would have to be high enough to support $250,000 for operating and maintenance costs, plus another $250,000 to generate revenue to protect the road.
