FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Contraband discovered inside the Franklin County Jail is prompting a crackdown by law enforcement.

Correctional officers found cell phones and also illegal alcohol made by inmates.

Two inmates, Lataska Harris and Fred Cargill are facing charges for possession of the cell phones.

WTXL spoke with Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith Friday at the Florida Sheriff's Association. He says this is a wake up call.

"We are still trying to figure out how it got in," said Sheriff Smith. We don't know if trustees brought it in or if it was tossed over the fence. One of the issues we have at our jail is we don't have a perimeter fence. There is a fenced in area where the inmates go to exercise."
