Fourth of July celebrations around Big Bend, South Georgia

(WTXL) -  Here's some July 4th (some not actually on July 4th) events going on in our viewing area:

JUNE 30TH: Wiregrass Freedom Festival 

  • Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village
  • 1392 Whiddon Mill Rd.
  • Tifton, GA
  • 9 a.m.  – 4 p.m.
  • Activities wrap up and you can head to the Rock the Block street dance for fireworks
  • Admission for the day is $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $5 for children 5 – 16 years of age, and free for children under five.

JULY 4TH: VLPRA Independence Day Fireworks Extravaganza

  • Norman Drive area // East side of I-75 between exits 16 and 18. Look west toward Brooks County
  • Nightfall: Fireworks begin
  • No fee. Fireworks can be viewed on the east side (mall side) of I-75, anywhere between exits 16 and 18

JULY 4TH: Cairo Fireworks Show and Concert on the Lawn (There will be a tribute to the late Daryle Singletary!)

WAKULLA COUNTY

THERE WILL BE NO WASTE COLLECTION ON WEDNESDAY JULY 4, 2018:

  • MONDAY COLLECTION WILL BE ON MONDAY
  • TUESDAY COLLECTION WILL BE ON TUESDAY
  • WEDNESDAY COLLECTION WILL BE ON THURSDAY
  • THURSDAY COLLECTION WILL BE ON FRIDAY
  • FRIDAY COLLECTION WILL BE ON SATURDAY

The Waste Pro Lower Bridge Landfill and Transfer Station is still open (UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE):

  • Mondays 8:00AM to 5:00PM
  • Fridays 8:00AM to 5:00 PM
  • Saturdays 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

THOMASVILLE

The City of Thomasville offices will be closed Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in observance of Independence Day. As a result, some City services will be affected. City services’ schedules are as follows:

  • Energy Control Center - Regular, 24-hour operational schedule
  • City of Thomasville Residential Refuse - Wednesday residential customers will be picked up on Thursday, July 5th.  Normal pick-up schedules will resume Friday, July 6th.
  • Thomas County Residential Refuse - Thomas County residential customers will be picked up on Thursday, July 5th.
  • Yard Trash - There will be no yard trash pick-up Wednesday, July 4th. As yard trash pick-ups have no specific day assigned to any one residence or street, this will not affect the pick-up of any resident’s yard trash.
  • Commercial Refuse - There will be no change to commercial customers’ pick-up schedule.
  • Country Oaks Golf Course - Country Oaks will be open from 7:30 a.m. until Nightfall, Wednesday, July 4. Tee Times are recommended.
  • Municipal Airport - The Municipal Airport will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4.
  • Landfill - The Landfill will be closed on Wednesday, July 4.
