TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Four Tallahassee Police officers were sworn in as Leon County deputies to tackle auto crimes.
Sheriff Walt McNeil and Police Chief Michael DeLeo got together and worked out an auto crimes task force with the goal of driving down property crimes. These TP officers can now go out in the county.
"This was a way for them to actually put the detectives in the same area and in the same offices, where if you work property crimes, you might have cases assigned to different detectives and suspects in those cases, a lot of the time, ended up being the same people. If you are not talking and you are not collaborating," said Lt. Grady Jordan with the Leon County Sheriff's Office.
Lt. Jordan says for example one person could be committing 30, 40, or 50 burglaries and when that person is arrested it helps reduce crime rate.
