LEON COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - One organization has announced that they will fight the constant battle of raising education funding here in Leon County with a fundraiser.

The Foundation for Leon County Schools will be celebrating it's 30th anniversary Thursday night in it's biggest fundraiser of the year. The foundation hopes to earn a record-setting dollar amount to help fund even more grants.

In the fight for classroom funding, the 2015 Foundation for Leon County Schools reported that nearly 12,000 teachers and 406 students applied for grant funding.

In Leon County, teachers applied for more than $400,000 in grants but unfortunately only $115,000 dollars were actually awarded.

That's why all the proceeds from the event will help fund the classroom grant program.

Foundation chair, Kyle Phelps said events like this help to continue the success of students in Leon County.

"There doing it because they like to see that spark, that student engaged in the learning process. That's what it's all about, what we're trying to do is we're tying to find those teachers who are really engaged and thinking of innovative ideas to reach their students, and that's why we're seeing those learning gains," said Phelps.

Even though the event is sold out, the foundation is still asking for more donations through their 30 for 30 program.
