FORT MYERS, Fla. - The city of Fort Myers will no longer host ZombiCon.
The decision comes less than two months after a shooting at the zombie-themed street festival that killed one and injured five others. The city council voted Monday to cut ties with the event after hosting it for nine years.
Council members said they didn't blame ZombiCon organizers, but felt the event had outgrown the city.
The News-Press reports city officials said ZombiCon also requires the greatest clean-up efforts of all the events.
Fort Myers officials also agreed to spend nearly half a million dollars to install 49 cameras throughout downtown for a New Year's Eve event. Officials said additional surveillance cameras would have helped authorities identify a ZombiCon suspect sooner.
