WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Wakulla High School volunteer football coach has resigned after parents raised concerns about his past.
This comes at the time the coach is arrested.
According to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, Christopher Tomaini was arrested Friday after turning himself in on a warrant filed by the State Attorney's Office. The charge: false statements to defraud public assistance for over $200. Tomaini has already bonded out of jail.
Deputies say this charge is unrelated to the issues Tomaini is facing at Wakulla High School. He made a post on his Facebook page saying the allegations against him are not true, but he's nevertheless leaving his volunteer coaching position.
Tomaini reportedly resigned from Chiles High School three years ago in light of allegations he sent inappropriate texts to a 17-year-old student. Despite this history, the Wakulla School District stood by bringing him on board, saying he passed other background checks.
