TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A former employee at Marco's Pizza has been arrested, accused of embezzling nearly $4,000 from the restaurant while on the job.
Robert West was arrested on Sunday for grand theft and organized scheme to defraud.
In June, the Leon County Sheriff's Office as contacted by the Marco's Pizza restaurant at 6668 Thomasville Road about a theft.
When deputies talked to the owner, he told them that on June 6, 2017, he was notified by his accountant that the restaurant was missing some deposits.
The next day, the owner told deputies he asked the store manager what was going on. The store manager told the owner that he had given to the deposits to the shift manager, identified as Robert West, who assured the owner that he had deposited them at the bank.
The owner told West to go back to the bank to figure out what was going on, but when West returned he told the owner that the bank did not receive the deposits however he would "investigate" and "let them know."
The document says West was scheduled to work on the 10th, but never showed up and was not replying to any attempts to contact him.
Further investigation revealed that there were 10 different incidents between May 17, 2017 and June 7, 2017 where money was stolen from the deposit totaling $2,951. In addition, there was $773 stolen from the tip envelope.
Investigators say the total amount stolen was $3,724.
As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for West's arrest. He was taken into custody on Sunday. He remains in the Leon County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
