TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Mourners gathered as Tallahassee's first African-American mayor James Ford was laid to rest Monday.
The family described it as a musical ceremony to celebrate his 91 years of life.
Former mayor James Ford died last Wednesday. Governor Rick Scott ordered flags at the state capital and the Tallahassee City Hall to fly at half staff in Ford's honor.
Ford was elected in 1972 and served three terms as the city's first African-American mayor.
Not only was Ford Tallahassee's first African-American mayor, he was the first African-American mayor of a capital city in the country.
