Former South Georgia doctor sentenced for tax evasion

MACON, Ga. (WTXL) - The U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia announced today that 61-year old Robert Sperrazza, M.D., whom currently lives in Panama City Beach, Florida and formerly lived in Lee County, Georgia, was sentenced to serve 3 years/36 months in Federal prison for tax evasion and currency structuring. The U.S. District Judge also ordered Dr. Sperrazza to forfeit more than $870,000 to the United States.

According to Pamela Lightsey, a spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Michael Moore, Dr. Sperrazza was convicted by a jury on June 7, 2013 of five felony offenses, three counts of tax evasion and two counts of currency structuring.

Dr. Sperrazza was formerly an anesthesiologist in Albany, Georgia. He later moved to Panama City Beach where he reportedly briefly ran a pain clinic. He is currently not practicing medicine.
