BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL)-- The Bainbridge State College community welcomed Former President Jimmy Carter to campus.

Like many of the students at Bainbridge State College, the 39th president of the United States grew up in rural Georgia. During his visit to the school, he spoke in the Kirbo building, named after the late Charles Kirbo, a Bainbridge resident and one of the former president's closest advisors.

"His heart was always in Bainbridge, and in Decatur County," said Former President Carter.

He talked about his 68 year long marriage to his wife Rosalyn and which former president he admires the most, saying, "I think Harry Truman was totally honest."

He also shared some lessons learned during his presidency, including what he considers the most important things in life.

"You can't see humility. You can't see peace. You can't see forgiveness," he said.

The evening was part of Bainbridge State College's arts and lecture series, happening for a total of five years.
