MEIGS, Ga. (WTXL) - The former mayor of Meigs plead guilty to felony theft by taking Wednesday.

Cynthia Chaney was indicted on 17 charges last month, following a nearly two-year investigation into money that went missing from the city's water revenue account.

Wednesday, a judge sentenced her to five years probation, a $15,000 fine, and $4,600 in restitution to the city.

That was only for one count. The other 16 were dismissed.

Court records show the offenses happened between May and December 2013 while Chaney was mayor.

Investigators say Chaney put a city vehicle in her name and used other money to pay a personal laundry bill.
