THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)-- The former Meigs mayor has been arrested for giving false statements.
That's according to the Thomas County Sheriff's Office.
Linda Harris was questioned at the justice center in Thomasville Tuesday and was arrested at 3:40 p.m.
In an indigency affidavit, she claimed she didn't have the money to pay for legal counsel. The sheriff's office says that's simply not true. Investigators say she has a house in Meigs, a bank account, and vehicle. She filed the motion at the courthouse on March 16.
She was sentenced on March 23 after being convicted on violation of oath of office and theft by taking charges.
Her first appearance for the false statements and writings charge is at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Harris has bonded out of Thomas County Jail.
