TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A former Jackson County heath worker was arrested for allegedly hitting a disabled patient in the face.

The Florida Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit said that 21-year-old Ashley Griffin was arrested on Wednesday after an investigation.

They said that the investigation started after they received a complaint from the Florida Department of Children and Families about an alleged abuse of a patent at Jackson County Sunland Center's intermediate care facility for the developmentally disabled.

Investigators said that Griffin had hit a disabled patient in the face and caused bleeding and bruising.

She has been charged with one count of abuse of a disabled adult, a third degree felony. Griffin faces up to five years in prison at $5,000 in fines if convicted.
