MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a former Cobb County Republican Party chairman has been indicted on child molestation charges.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/2aVJ5Jv ) reports that jail records show 71-year-old Joseph Russell Dendy was arrested in May at his West Cobb home where on separate occasions he allegedly molested two boys, ages 4 and 12.
According to the indictment, Dendy faces 13 charges including child molestation, first-degree cruelty to children and aggravated sexual battery.
Prosecutors at his June bond hearing said Dendy has been molesting children over a span of 55 years.
Dendy served two, two-year terms as leader of the Cobb GOP and was succeeded last year by his vice chair, Rose Wing.
Dendy is being held at the Cobb County jail without bond. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
