QUINCY, FL (WTXL) -- Months after he was convicted of stealing money during an arrest, a former captain with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Department was sentenced to prison.
James Corder was facing up to 20 years in prison. On Wednesday, he was sentence to serve 30 months in federal prison and a year of supervised release.
According to court documents, Corder stole $1,785 belonging to someone he arrested in July of 2013 and that he then lied about the theft to federal investigators.
Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young released this statement following the sentencing, "From the inception of this case our office worked to facilitate a thorough and fair investigation of the facts. As Sheriff, I hold those within my administration to high standards and now that the judicial process has been completed we will continue to move forward as an organization accountable to a community."
