ATLANTA (AP) - Three former Delta Air Lines workers have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in a drug distribution operation.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports 36-year-old Luis Marroquin has been sentenced to 16 years, 42-year-old Carlos R. Springer has been sentenced to 11 years and 28-year-old Kevin Rondon, of Miami, has been sentenced to five years.
Authorities say Springer offloaded a piece of unclaimed luggage containing methamphetamine and heroin from a flight and investigators reviewed his cellphone and saw incriminating messages between Springer and Marroquin around the time the flight arrived.
Investigators say Marroquin recruited Rondon to participate in the scheme, and paid him $500 to ensure the bag was on the flight before it arrived in Atlanta Jan. 13, 2012.
The three pleaded guilty in the case last year.
