TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Former astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn has passed away.
According to officials at Ohio State University the 95-year-old was admitted last week to the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus.
Glenn underwent heart valve replacement surgery two years ago.
As an astronaut, Glenn was the first american to orbit earth, doing so in 1962.
Then in 1998, at age 77, he became the oldest person to ever travel in space, serving as a crew member aboard space shuttle discovery.
Glenn also represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate for 25 years, and sought the democratic presidential nomination in 1984.
