TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Kids were learning about how to take care of their health, wellness and safety Saturday at the 8th annual Youth Symposium on Food and Hunger.
The event aimed at promoting healthier communities on Tallahassee's Southside. Organizers say access to fresh, healthy food is a big problem, especially in minority neighborhoods.
That's why the symposium was teaching kids about ways they can eat better and exercise more.
"Food insecurity, public safety and children's mental health. That's very important in our community because we've struggled with it for so many years. And now it's time for us to help people in or neighborhood, spread the word, so that our society and our neighborhoods can become a better place," said Jermaine Edwards, one of the kids who attended the symposium.
The annual event was hosted by the City of Tallahassee. The Tallahassee Police Department was also there to talk about the importance of public safety.
