TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - Call them what you will, drones, unmanned aerial vehicles or UAV's, this innovative technology has caused waves of excitement in both the commercial business world and domestic use. One Tallahassee resident new to the area took exploring his surroundings to another level.
Alex Workman with Aerial Tallahassee says, "We decided we were going to learn to love where we live. So we decided we were going to explore from a new perspective."
Workman and his wife are the photographers behind the amazing pictures of Aerial Tallahassee. But its the future of the industry that has them being proactive.
According to Workman, "Often times we have polar sides, one saying I'm going to do whatever I want and someone saying hyper regulation, but often we don't get to sit in the same room."
A Town Hall meeting at Catalina Cafe has them doing just that, starting a dialogue about what rules or laws should be put in place; however ensuring safety was the number one priority for both sides.
Workman says, "If we can have an honorable conversation with those who are regulating the air and the incredible men and women who are serving our community I believe that the respect and the relationship is going to grow so it's not these two competing entities."
The Federal Aviation Administration has picked up the pace on establishing guidelines for use, but laws are limited so far. As for Tallahassee, a 5 mile radius no fly zone around the Tallahassee International Airport has been implemented. But as interest and involvement grow, many believe some sort of regulation is necessary.
According to Alex Smith an avid UAV flyer, "As far as regulation, I think there should be regulations. Common sense regulations but not over regulation to where it is difficult to enter the hobby or to use commercially."
Only time will tell what regulations will be put into place to ensure safety for all those involved.
