TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida is continuing to add thousands of private sector jobs a new employment survey says.
Payroll provider ADP reported Thursday that the state added 16,640 private sector jobs during the month of September. ADP's survey is separate from the one that is conducted by government agencies.
ADP stated that Florida's overall job growth numbers were among the highest in the nation behind Texas. The survey showed that the growth was largely in service jobs.
Florida's unemployment rate in August was 7 percent. But state officials reported that the state actually lost more than 5,000 jobs that month.
Florida is supposed to report new unemployment numbers next week. But the state will not be able to release the numbers if the federal government shutdown continues.
