JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville store owner shot and killed a masked man who jumped over the counter and demanded money from the clerk.

The shooting happened about 9 p.m. Sunday at the Holiday Grocery.

Jacksonville Sheriff's officials say the owner came out of another room and pointed a gun at the man and told him to drop his weapon.

The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/18kMERB ) reports the man refused and the store owner shot him in the chest. The man ran from the store and collapsed about a block away. The sheriff's office says the suspect was in serious but stable condition at UF Health Jacksonville.

The newspaper reports the suspect entered the store with his face and hands covered in a style similar to other recent robberies. Police have not linked the robberies.
