BRADENTON, Fla. -- There is pushback against Manatee County Schools potentially selling a 3-acre park around Jessie P. Miller Elementary School.
A group of retired teachers, along with residents who live near the school, strongly urged the school board not to sell the land. They say student safety may be compromised.
A Tampa-based developer is offering nearly $2 million for McKelvey Park, reportedly to build a strip mall.
Manatee County Schools is considering their offer in order to raise money for help with the school district's deficit.
The property is located on Manatee Avenue West at 43rd Street.
