OCALA, Fla. (AP) - Health officials have issued a rabies alert for southwest Marion County after a raccoon tested positive.

The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/1aMrZaN ) reports this is the second alert issued this month and the third this year in Marion County. A rabies alert issued July 18 for an area just north of Ocala is still in effect. An alert issued March for northern Marion County expired in May.

Officials say all domestic animals should be vaccinated against rabies. They advise people to avoid contact with all wildlife, but especially raccoons, bats, foxes, skunks, otters, bobcats and coyotes.
