MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- More legal issues have arisen concerning private security placed in elementary schools throughout Manatee County.

Questions are being raised whether the hiring of security contractor Sarasota Security Patrol was done in violation of Florida's open government laws.

According to published reports, the firm was recommended by a school district-appointed committee last month. But the meeting wasn't advertised to the public beforehand, which violates the state's sunshine laws.

The Manatee County School District is responding to the claim by saying the meeting wasn't public.
