JENSEN BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A prescribed burn is planned for a Jensen Beach state park.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Savannas Preserve State Park will conduct the burn on Wednesday, weather permitting.
One acre of sand pine scrub will be burned.
State officials say prescribed burning mimics natural fire cycles to restore natural communities, reduce undergrowth that accumulates over time and decreases the potential for wildfire. Burned lands experience an increase in native wildflowers, birds and other wildlife.
