DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Police say the death of a man who was killed in a shooting on a bridge may have stemmed from earlier confrontations.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1J51QXo ) reports 24-year-old Deandre Smith was shot and killed early Sunday morning while driving across a bridge over the Halifax River.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt says Smith's vehicle was shot at several times by occupants of another vehicle driving in Smith's direction. Police say they didn't have details of how many times Smith was shot.

Flynt says there were two separate instances, occurring Saturday and Sunday, which may have led to Smith's death. Police won't give details of the confrontations and homicide detectives are handling the case.
