LAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 16-month-old north Florida girl died when one of her parents left her in the car after forgetting to drop her off at day care.
Columbia County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call Tuesday afternoon and found the child was unresponsive.
Sheriff's spokesman Murray Smith says at least one of the child's parents is a state employee with whom the sheriff's office has frequent interaction. So, the case is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Officials did not specify which parent works for the state or name the agency.
No further details were immediately available.
