RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina House panel is bringing in out-of-state officials for a hearing discussing how new voter ID laws have affected their states.
The House Elections Committee is slated to host Ion Sancho, the elections supervisor in Florida's Leon County, and Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, during a meeting Wednesday.
The hearing is the latest in a series of meetings designed to gather information on the heated issue before legislators submit a bill.
An effort in 2011 passed the General Assembly but was vetoed by then-Gov. Beverly Perdue. Republicans now hold larger majorities in both chambers and have the support of Gov. Pat McCrory.
GOP legislators have predicted the House will vote on new legislation by mid-April.
