SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say the owner of a southwest Florida rental property accused of scamming customers threw a bucket of urine on a code inspector.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reports that officials began investigating 44-year-old Craig Siegel after multiple people reported paying a total of more than $53,000 in advance to stay at a five-bedroom, Siesta Key home, which was advertised as having 12 bedrooms. When a county code enforcement officer went to the home Monday morning to dismantle modifications made last year without proper permits, authorities say Siegel doused the officer with urine.
The Herald-Tribune (http://goo.gl/2vC820 ) reports that Siegel was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and battery on a code enforcement officer. He also faces another 19 counts of scheming to defraud related to the false-advertising claims.
Jail records didn't list an attorney for Siegel.
