BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Manatee County School District is working with the state to make sure its armed security guards are legal.
According to the Bradenton Herald, the official request was sent to Tallahassee this week. The Attorney General's office has confirmed they received the request.
The issue at hand is whether or not the security guards can have a gun on school campus.
A state statute says people are not allowed to possess or discharge a weapon on school property unless authorized in support of a school sanctioned activity.
The district's staff attorney is asking for clarification.
