TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol has 65 new troopers.

The troopers graduated from the highway patrol's Training Academy on Wednesday. They'll join the nearly 1,800 troopers who patrol the state's highways.

The graduates went through 28 weeks of intense physical and classroom training and participated in community service activities.

Trooper Phillip Boutros received the Executive Director's Award for having the highest grade point average. The Director's Award was presented to Trooper James Allen Jr. for demonstrating extraordinary courtesy and dedication during training.

When they report to their duty stations, the new graduates will work with a field training officer for up to 12 weeks before being released to solo duty.
