TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a former Florida sheriff's deputy was arrested on charges related to impersonating a federal drug agent.

In a statement, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Wednesday the arrest of former Seminole County Sheriff's Deputy Don Wheeler. Another man, Michael Maine, was also arrested.

Both men face charges of extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion, unlawful use of a two-way communication device and falsely impersonating an officer.

An investigation revealed that Wheeler impersonated a Drug Enforcement Administration agent in an effort stop Maine's wife from proceeding with a divorce.

Maine also faces an additional count of forgery. If convicted, both men face more than 30 years in prison. It isn't clear if they have attorneys.

Authorities say Wheeler wasn't a law enforcement officer during the time of the alleged criminal activity.
