PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- More than 70 Charlotte County Public Elementary School students have stayed home sick this week due to an illness health officials suspect is the highly contagious norovirus.
The school district sent a letter this week to parents of students at Neil Armstrong and Kingsway elementaries, warning of the virus.
Based on the symptoms, health officials believe it could be the norovirus. Symptoms mirror gastrointestinal illness with nausea, vomiting and stomachache.
Health officials warn that it’s contagious.
Schools have brought in extra custodians to help prevent the spread of the illness.
