COCOA, FL (RNN) - A pet rat almost became lunch for a hungry ball python that slithered its way into a Florida woman’s home.
Juanita Tedesco said she was rinsing off blankets that the rat uses when she discovered the snake. She said the reptile was trying to eat the blanket, according to TV station WESH.
“He had the blanket totally in his mouth,” she told the WESH reporter. “It was really gross.”
She did the right thing – she called the Cocoa, FL, police. But not before she emailed a picture of the snake to her husband. He hates snakes. Especially when they're in his house.
A spokesman for the police said if you ever run across a python – or any other similar critter – call authorities.
“If you don’t know what it is, it could be possibly venomous,” said Lt. Mike Dellatore. “You definitely don’t want to mess with it. You’ll want to call law enforcement or animal control.”
Tedesco said she's not even sure if they caught the right python. There may be another one in the house, she speculated.
There may be a happy ending in sight for Tedesco's husband.
"I think now I may have to get rid of my rats. My husband is really upset about it," she said.
