TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A narrowly divided Florida Senate is signing off on a new Senate map.
The Senate on Wednesday voted 22-18 on a new map for 40 state Senate districts. All 14 Democrats voted against the new map as did four Republicans.
It's not clear if the House will pass the proposal because the Senate made last minute changes to a handful of districts in Miami-Dade County.
Florida legislators last week started a 19-day session designed to come up with a new map that would pass muster with the courts.
The Senate vote came amid an acrimonious session where State Sen. Don Gaetz publicly called fellow GOP Sen. Jack Latvala a "bully" for comments he'd made about Gaetz. Latvala said Gaetz deserved to apologize to Floridians because he oversaw redistricting plans that were thrown out by the court.
