TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida taxpayers are spending more to provide security for Gov. Rick Scott, as well as for visitors including President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
A new report released Monday showed that the state spent $2.64 million on security between July 2012 and June 2013. That was the highest amount spent by state authorities on security in the last eight years.
But the higher total includes money spent to protect a long line of Republican governors who attended the Republican National Convention held last summer in Tampa.
The biggest share of costs was spent on agents to provide around-the-clock security for Scott, as well as security for First Lady Ann Scott. The state did provide security to other top state officials during the convention.
