FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Florida has the nation's second-highest rate of residents without health insurance.
New U.S. Census figures released Thursday show that just under a quarter of Florida residents under age 65 lived without health insurance in 2011.
That figure is slightly down from 2010 when 25.3 percent of Floridians were without health insurance.
But the percentage has been rising over the past several years. In 2008, just over 24 percent of Floridians were without health insurance.
Florida led the challenge to the health care overhaul law. The law was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court last year.
