TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Republicans are raising much more money than Democrats as they prepare to head into an election year battle for the governor's mansion.
The Republican Party of Florida reported Thursday that it raised $5.1 million in the three months that ended Sept. 30. The Florida Democratic Party raised $1.4 million during the same period.
RPOF has now raised $14 million dollars this year, compared to $2.5 million raised by Democrats.
The Seminole Tribe of Florida was a major donor to both parties this past quarter, giving $250,000 to the state GOP and $75,000 to Democrats. The tribe owns several casinos around Florida, including the Hard Rock casinos in Hollywood and Tampa.
