DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents arrested a man they believe may have been involved in as many as two dozen bank robberies.
Early Friday, agents say 49-year-old Gene Alfonso Shuler was caught robbing the Fifth Third Bank in Daytona Beach
In a news release, FDLE spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger said Schuler entered the bank after breaking a window and circumventing the security system to avoid detection. What he didn't know is that he was under FDLE surveillance. Agents have been investigating Schuler for the past several months.
Schuler was released from federal prison in June after serving time for previous bank robberies. Agents believe he has robbed multiple banks since then.
He was taken to the Volusia County Jail. It's unclear whether he has an attorney.
