Downtown Tampa hotel evacuated due to fire

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A downtown Tampa hotel was evacuated because of a three-alarm fire.

Tampa Fire Rescue officials say the fire broke out Monday morning at the Howard Johnson hotel on West Fortune Street.

Investigators believe and fire was caused by a problem with an air conditioner. Rescuers found a fire on the 12th floor, which was under renovation and unoccupied.

The Tampa Tribune reports that only 53 of the hotel's 332 rooms were occupied Monday morning, and no injuries were reported.
