CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Suncoast wildlife rehab center could soon be forced to move operations.
Peace River Wildlife Center in Charlotte County has been helping injured animals since 1987. But recently the City of Punta Gorda learned they do not own the land where the center is located.
It's owned by a private developer who wants to build condos at the site, located on the shore of Charlotte Harbor. The builder says he will allow the wildlife center to remain open if the city allows him to build the condos double the height allowed by city code.
The city's board of zoning appeals will discuss the issue at a meeting Tuesday.
