Crooks steal eletrical wire from homes throughout Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -  Is your neighbor away from home for a while?  Have you noticed that the lights at their house that usually come on haven’t been on for a while?  You might want to check – they may be the victim of a series of thefts being reported in Charlotte County.

Recently there have been a rash of reports regarding the very dangerous act of stealing electrical wiring from houses.  These types of thefts have been reported at locations throughout the county.

Detectives have found that the suspects are cutting the electrical wires that come into the house.  These electrical wires may be fully charged with electricity when they are cut, making this a very dangerous type of theft. 

Detectives are asking that residents keep a watchful eye on their own as well as their neighbor’s property and report anyone who is acting suspiciously around the electrical wires of houses.   Anyone who sees someone suspicious handling electrical wires outside houses is asked to please call the Sheriff’s Office at (941) 639-2101 so the person can be checked out.  Anyone with information specific to electrical wire thefts is asked to also please call the Sheriff’s Office.
