SARASOTA, Fla. -- A partnership between the City of Sarasota and Sarasota County to create a homeless shelter for those in need is officially over.
This week, the city commission decided to end the joint pursuit of a shelter.
Now Sarasota County is trying to decide its next move. At a meeting Tuesday, homelessness expert, Dr. Robert Marbut, suggested the county move forward without the city's involvment.
County commissioners, who have supported Marbut’s recommendations for a "come as you are" shelter, want to discuss the idea further before making any decisions.
In the meantime, the county is continuing to search for shelter sites.
